The benefits of advertising on cable TV
My Family Guide has partnered with cable TV providers to offer affordable cable TV and digital advertising to businesses like yours. We have found that a lot of businesses are unaware of the benefits and competitive prices that come with cable TV advertising. We are here to help fill that gap and improve the exposure of your business with affordable advertising.
The difference between cable TV and network TV
Cable TV is considered the channels that you pay in addition to your local channels (or network channels). For example, some channels on cable include USA, TBS, TNT and MTV. Network television includes your local stations that air ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS.
Why advertise on cable TV
Network television advertises, by simply sending out a signal into the air hoping that your desired audience sees your commercial. However, if your business is trying to reach a specific audience this would not be a smart way to spend your advertising money. Since cable TV is a service that consumers pay for; the service provider (e.g. Comcast) gathers information and can tailor advertising specific to your business’s demographic needs.
Know the demographic you want to reach
Of course it would be great if we could reach everyone with our marketing, but believe it or not, not every single person is interested in what your business has to offer. Each business has a consumer target market and that consumer falls into some sort of demographic. The demographic profile falls into some these general categories: age groups, male or female, education, marital status, household income, housing units & family type, race and ethnicity. Before you begin your advertising campaign, make sure you know your demographic and who you want to reach.
Frequency for first time TV advertisers
Television advertising is not a short-term solution, unless you are trying to push an upcoming event. Think about it, McDonald’s has been in business since the 1950s and they are still advertising their business daily. Most businesses will see a higher return on their advertising dollars if they are in it for the long-haul (9+ months). Let’s face it, the more frequent a consumer sees your advertisement, the more likely they are to recall and remember your business. It is highly unlikely that a consumer who sees your ad that was aired for 10 times in the month of July will remember you in November if they never see your advertisement again. In summary, unless you are pushing an event that has specific dates, it is advisable to be in TV advertising for 9+ months to see the best results.
Cost associated with cable TV advertising
You have decided that cable TV advertising is a great way to expose your business. So, how much does it cost? The first thing to keep in mind is the actual commercial itself. You will need to hire a professional or create your commercial before it can be aired. A “spot” is considered a 30 second commercial. Each spot varies in price depending upon the channel that you want to advertise. That is why knowing your demographic is important. The most popular and expensive channels are HGTV and ESPN. Commercials can range from 15 seconds to 30 seconds and it depends on the amount of money you want to spend. A 15 second commercial can be shared with another business (who shares the same demographic), or use the whole 30 seconds to promote your own business.
For example, one commercial on HGTV, aired Monday – Sunday from 4pm to Midnight is approximately $15.00 per Spot (or 1 – 30 second commercial). The least expensive are cooking channels. For example, on Cooking Channel, one commercial, aired Monday – Sunday from 5am to 4pm is approximately $1.00 per Spot (or 1 – 30 second commercial).
We offer packages as low as $50 a month with a 6 month commitment. The number of Spots your commercial will air will determined on the demographic (cable channels) that you are trying to target.
